ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., (970 WFLA) - The widow of Congressman Bill Young has sent an e-mail to former Florida governor Charlie Crist. And she doesn't mince words.
"I have watched over the years, as Bill had, your transparent attempts to manipulate the political arena. I don't want my husband's memorial service to be another opportunity for that, and I will not tolerate anyone turning this into a platform for political gain," she wrote.
The Tampa Bay Times says she also sent a similar e-mail to two of Young's former democratic challengers, Pinellas County Commissioner Charlie Justice and Jessica Ehrlich, who is currently running for that District 13 congressional seat.
Mrs. Young says her husband asked her to make sure those three did not attend his service and didn't want to anyone to turn his funeral into a political opportunity.
There's been no comment from Crist or the others.
Meantime, there is a public viewing for the congressman at the Bill Young Armed Forces Reserve Center on Grand Avenue in Pinellas Park Wednesday evening from 5-8 p.m.
Young's funeral, which is open to the public, will take place Thursday at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church on Ulmerton Road in Indian Rocks.
