Clearwater Restaurant Catches Fire Overnight

CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) -- A Clearwater restaurant goes up in flames overnight.

Clearwater firefighters were called to the Bait House Restaurant at 51 Causeway Blvd. on Clearwater Beach shortly after 10 p.m.

The restaurant had closed at 10 p.m., and shortly thereafter, firefighters said a fisherman noticed smoke coming from the building.

After arriving on scene, firefighters found heavy smoke and fire coming from the building.

Gusty winds made it difficult to battle the fire, according to firefighters, which pushed the fire in the direction of the adjacent ‘Starlite Majesty Dining Yacht.’ Firefighters said they were able to battle the blaze and contain it to the restaurant and spare the 115-foot yacht.

Nearly three dozen firefighters responded to the scene. Authorities said the blaze appears to have started in the kitchen, but the cause remains under investigation.

No one was injured.
