CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Nicholas Lindsey was 16-years-old when he shot and killed St. Pete police officer David Crawford in 2011. He's spending life in prison with no chance of parole.
But there's been a resentencing hearing because of a U.S. Supreme Court ruling that an automatic mandatory life sentence without parole is unconstitutinal.
A relative urged the court to give the now 18-yaer-old a chance to be released at some point in his life. A forensic psychologist even testified that Lindsey suffering from a type of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome because of violence that he encountered in his neighborhood growing up.
But prosecutors maintain Lindsey knew exactly what he was doing the night he killed officer Crawford.
The judge will make a final decision and re-sentence Lindsey October 11th.
