Deputies investigate hit and run fatality involving a bicyclist

RUSKIN, Fla. (970 WFLA) -- Hillsborough County traffic homicide investigators said they are asking for the public's assistance in locating the driver and vehicle that struck 56-year-old Antonio Leon and fled the scene.

At 7:00 p.m. on Friday November 29, deputies said Leon was riding his blue and silver bicycle westbound on 21st avenue approaching his home on 21st Avenue SE in Ruskin. 

Deputies said he was struck from behind by an unknown vehicle traveling west on 21st Avenue at approximately 45 to 55 mph and left the scene.

Deputies said an intake airbox from a 2003 - 2005 Saturn Ion was left at the scene. A witness described the suspect vehicle as being green in color, according to the HCSO. Deputies said the car may possibly have blue or silver paint on it from the bicycle.

Deputies said anyone with any information reference the hit and run fatality or the vehicle involved is asked to call the sheriff's office at 247-8200, or if you would like to remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward, call crime stoppers of Tampa Bay at 1-800-873-8477.
