Deputies: Two women shot at outside restaurant

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Hillsborough County deputies said two women were shot at while waiting for food in their car.

It happened early this morning just before 1 a.m.

Deputies said two women, 20-year-old Briana Reddick and her 16-year-old friend were with two other friends when they arrived in a vehicle at the Waffle House off of Lumsden Road in Brandon to pick-up food.

Deputies said the two friends exited the car and went inside to place their order, while Reddick and her friend waited in the car. Deputies said 22-year-old Matthew Laine then exited the restaurant and fired 15 rounds (point blank range) into the vehicle.

According to deputies, Reddick was struck in the right leg and right arm and was transported to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition. Deputies said the other sustained multiple cuts to both of her legs from broken glass.

Deputies said they later found Laine at home and was taken into custody without incident. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, he is facing charges.

Deputies said it does not appear Laine personally knew either victim and that there is no evidence to suggest there was any type of altercation preceding the incident.

Deputies said no one else was injured.
