Tampa Fla. (970 WFLA) - With a vote of 4 to 3, the Hillsborough County School Board signed off on a plan that would place armed security guards at all district elementary schools.
The guards will be called "community school officers" and will be district employees.
The plan will cost the district 4.5 million dollars in all and would phase in the officers over the next four years. Today's board approval allows the first year of the program to go forward.
At the board meeting today, several elementary school principals took time to speak in favor of the measure.
