PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The Pasco County Sheriffs Office said one of its own deputies is seriously injured after a hit and run crash and now deputies are searching for the suspect. The injured deputy is in the hospital.
Deputies said the crash happened at SR 54/Loury in the Zephyrhills/Wesley Chapel area.
Around emergency communications teams received calls from the public and the deputy who also activated his emergency button on his radio, according to the sheriff’s office.
Deputies said they are looking for a male suspect who hit the deputy head on with a red F150 pickup and fled on foot.
A perimeter has been set up and deputy's are searching for the suspect in the area, PCSO said.
Deputies are asking citizens in the immediate search area not to walk around on the area as K9 is attempting to track the suspect.
PCSO said the deputy has at least one broken leg and other injuries and is in the emergency room getting x-rays.
"Thank God our deputy is alive after a horrific crash. We don't know if the suspect was intoxicated it's too early to tell," Sheriff Chris Nocco said.
UPDATE: PCSO deputies said the suspect in the hit and run is in FHP custody.
