Polk Teen Gets 12 Years for Fatal Stabbing

BARTOW, Fla. (970 WFLA/AP)- A central Florida teen has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a fatal shooting.

As part of a deal with Polk County prosecutors, 18-year-old Shaquille Rose pleaded guilty Friday to manslaughter with a firearm. He had initially been charged with second-degree murder, which could have meant a life sentence.

Authorities say Rose was 16 years old in January 2012 when shot 18-year-John Hazelton in the doorway to Hazelton's apartment. A witness told police that Rose had gone to Hazelton's home to discuss an earlier argument between the teens.
