St. Pete man gets life for fatal drug deal

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - A St.Petersburg man has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a woman during a drug deal.

A PinellasCounty judge sentenced 19-year-old Morris V. Hires on Thursday after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder.

Authorities say 21-year-old Felicia Celeste Vickers and several others drove to Hires' St. Petersburg home last March to buy drugs. One of the people in the car began arguing with Hires, who then pulled a gun and fired into the vehicle.

Vickers was hit during the shooting. The group drove her to BayfrontMedicalCenter, where she died several hours later.

Hires initially left the area for a few weeks but was arrested at his home when he returned.
