Detectives investigating fatal shooting in Tampa

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA)Tampa police said one man is dead after a shooting on the city’s east side.

Officers were dispatched to the 3800 block of East Lindell to investigate a shots fired call, according to police.

As officers were en-route to the scene, police said a male called 911 from 4200 block of East Columbus drive to report that he was shot.  

When officers arrived to the scene on E. Columbus drive, police said they quickly ascertained that the victim's Chevy Impala was possibly involved in the incident on E. Lindell Avenue based on witness statements.

Police said the victim, identified as 24-year-old David Christopher Harris, was transported to Tampa General Hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Police said homicide detectives are actively following up on leads, however the public's help is still needed.
