Three Boaters Rescued off Tampa Coast

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.(970 WFLA) -- Three people were rescued by the Coast Guard Monday after their 30-foot sailing vessel became disabled due to engine failure 80 miles west of Tampa.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District in Miami received an Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacon distress signal at 8:50 a.m. Monday. Coast Guard officials said a good Samaritan arrived on scene with the boat at 9:30 a.m. and relayed information to the watchstanders.

An aircrew from Air Station Clearwater was able to then spot the vessel. The Coast Guard Cutter Nantucket, a 110-foot Island Class patrol boat from St. Pete, took the vessel in tow.

No one was injured.
