Two people sent to hospital after I-275 crash

TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Tampa Fire Rescue crews responded to a traffic accident at 7:19 a.m. Monday on I-275 after callers reported a truck had flipped over the guardrail and landed in a ditch approximately 10-20 feet below.

Firefighters said the crash happened on the southbound side of Interstate 275 just north of the Waters Ave. overpass.

When crews arrived on scene, first responders said a box truck with major damage was found on its side with two injured occupants.

Firefighters said they requested additional resources as the patients had to be taken up a very steep embankment to awaiting ambulances. Both people in the truck were taken to an area hospital amazingly with non-life threatening injuries, according to TFR.

Firefighters said the cause of the accident is being investigated by the Florida Highway Patrol.
