UPDATE: Police say the Michigan tourist who took the shoe called the store Thursday to say she had done a stupid thing and that she wanted to return it. Police said she was already back in Michigan, but the shoe remained behind with people she had met locally while on vacation.
Police said those people returned the shoe to Hogan's Beach Shop tonight.
Police said no charges have been filed; the investigation continues.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Clearwater Police are investigating the theft of an expensive piece of memorabilia - an autographed wrestling shoe once worn by Hulk Hogan taken from his shop on Clearwater Beach.
Police said the shoe, valued at $5,500, was taken Sunday at about 5:20 p.m.
Police said four white females - possibly from Michigan on Spring break - came into Hogan's Beach Shop at 5:16 p.m. Four minutes later, police said a large statue of Hogan fell over outside the premises, and store workers were temporarily distracted and that's when the theft occurred.
Police said employees did not know the Steve Cardillo wrestling shoe was missing until Tuesday evening, however, when they checked store security cameras and saw the theft.
Anyone with information on the case should call Clearwater Police at 562-4242.
Police released the following description: Suspect is a white female in her 50s, heavyset, wearing a pink T-shirt, white shorts and flip-flops, light brown hair with blonde highlights.
