TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - A federal judge in Tampa has sentenced John Andrew Welden to 13.8 years in prison in the abortion pill case. He has until Wednesday to turn himself in.
Welden is the man who pleaded guilty to mail fraud and product tampering charges, admitting he tricked his pregnant girlfriend into taking an abortion pill.
The plea deal calls for a prison sentence of almost 14 years, but Welden's attorney, Todd Foster, there's no guarantee the judge will adhere to the sentencing guidelines under that agreement.
A couple weeks ago, Judge Richard Lazzara listened to experts for both the prosecution and defense on whether one abortion pill would have caused Remy Lee's miscarriage.
Lazzara decided that it did.
